Oh hi! Welcome to my new blog on Shopify! My name is Heidi, I am the one-woman team that is Heidi-and-Seek Boutique.
All the bones in my body are creative, which makes life pretty fun! My story starts at Christmas of 2008 when my sister gifted me the book “108 Ways to Transform a T-shirt". This opened up my mind to so many possibilities of things to do with clothing and fabrics! I received a sewing machine as well and was off and running!
Some of my first items were pillowcase tote bags with neck-tie straps, clutch purses made out of placemats covered in fun vintage fabrics, and unique headbands.
Friends of mine were impressed and told me I should sell my items. At this time I was also finding the world of lifestyle blogging, and this is how I found out about Etsy. I was thrilled about this marketplace opportunity and set up a store immediately! I recall a particularly ridiculous idea where I attached half a cassette tape to a ribbon that would tie around your head like a headband. Let’s just say I’ve improved the quality and taste of my items immensely since then!
In 2013 I started the Apparel Design program at Red River College in Winnipeg, MB and completed the 2 year certificate in 2015. I learned so much through these courses; Fashion Illustration, Textiles, Pattern Design and more! School is SO different when you're doing something you love.
It's 2022 and I am so happy with the action steps I have taken to get where I am today! Here are some things I have checked off my list:
- Attended the Made to Grow event which was chalk full of amazing speakers, and networking opportunities!
- Made connections with some other, more experienced designers in Winnipeg to see how they run things
- Started my own website through Shopify!
it's been quite a journey to get here but I'm so happy to be living my creative dreams. Don't get me wrong - I still work a part-time day job, own a home, have a husband and a fur baby, so those creative dreams are at times put on the back burner. But fashion is my passion and I can't wait to see what happens next!
Thanks for coming along!
